Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) high overall, consisting of a black disc bearing a gold star throughout with three upright elongated blue hexagons edged in gold, all conjoined with their lower points atop the upper three points of the star, all above a gold scroll bearing the inscription "PROVIDE THE WAY" in black.

Symbolism
Cobalt blue and golden yellow are the colors used for chemical units. The disc represents the military smoke generator symbol, the black simulating smoke. The disc also alludes to a wheel and to the 100% mobility aspects of the unit. The star symbolizes the command and supervision of from three to eight chemical smoke generator companies represented by the three blue hexagons which also imply chemical symbols.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 4 March 1968.
